The Science and Art of Healing

Training health care professionals of the future

Henry Ford Hospital and the Henry Ford Medical Group takes pride in being innovators when it comes to teaching the art of healing. More than $5 million has been invested in building a state-of-the-art, 12,000 square foot Clinical Skills Simulation Center at Henry Ford Hospital. Key features of the center include procedural simulation technologies using mannequins and other mechanical devices with live and achieved video capabilities.

The center holds advance curriculum and assess competencies of residents, physicians and other health care workers in the areas of inter-professional team communications, patient safety and doctor/patient communication skills.

“The simulation center will be invaluable in the training of current as well as future physicians and other health care professionals,” says Craig Reickert, MD, director of Surgical Programs at the Clinical Skills Simulation Center at Henry Ford. “We will provide sophisticated educational resources that will be used by a range of health care professionals including senior staff physicians, residents, fellows, interns, nurses and emergency medicine technicians, just to name a few,” he adds.

Why is it important to train health care working to do their jobs more effectively and create the most educated and technically proficient team possible?

“By training on medical simulation machines and in simulated patient and operating rooms, physicians and other health care professionals will have an even greater experience for real-life situations,” says Sean Drake, MD, director of Medical Programs at the Simulation Center at Henry Ford.

“The Clinical Skills Simulation Center will be integral in honoring our commitment to provide the safest, highest quality health care possible to our patients.”
