Founded in 1915 by Dr. Frank Sladen, the Henry Ford Hospital internal medicine residency program is the first residency program at Henry Ford Hospital. Throughout the years, it has gained a national reputation for the high quality clinical training of its graduates. As a result, we are able to attract and recruit high caliber residents each year.

Program Director Message

Dr. Kimberly Baker-Genaw

Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine programs at Henry Ford Hospital. I invite you to look through our website to view the highlights of our training program.

The residency program in Internal Medicine at HFH was established in 1915 and is one of nation's oldest training programs. The Hospital was built in 1914 as one of the first closed system hospitals (no private physicians).

Our dedication to education, research and patient care from the inception to the current day is the basis for our training program and this long-standing commitment to excellence in postgraduate medical education has made our graduates highly sought after for fellowship and faculty positions. I encourage you to review our training program highlights and faculty. We provide the core curriculum and clinical experiences designed to allow each trainee to develop in all the clinical competencies with a unique tailoring of educational experiences to meet the individual and career objectives of each our residents.

The ABIM reviewed the residency program and reported "no recommendations for improvement in your evaluation system. This non-recommendation is a rare experience for the Board, and provides definitive recognition of your leadership and commitment to education that is further exemplified by your entire department."

The Henry Ford Internal Medicine Residency program is one of 21 programs in the country awarded the Education Innovations Project (EIP) designation by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). This is awarded to programs who have exemplified excellence in medical education.
